…and that has made all the difference….

Or as they say, the apex, apogee, culmination, consummation, denouement, the frosting on the birthday cake grandpa knows so well.

Whole lotta Bob in this one, and the usual guitar bits. 62 minutes.

And check out a racist excerpt from Farah Failin’s speech, backwords unmasked:

Not, of course, as defined by Adam Smith in “The Wealth of Nations.” In the real world, the unseen hand of the market doesn’t even have the courtesy to give you a reach-around…

Wrong is the new right! Failure is the new success! Socialism is the new Free Market System! Denial the new Honesty. There’s no need to fear. Don’t panic. Stay in your homes–those of you who still have one or who may be able to bargain with Freddy or Fanny and strike up some kind of deal or other.
Stupidity and willful ignorance the new intelligence! To fuck up on a large scale is tantamount to the grandest of all achievements! Bathe in thy hubris!
“Why, let the stricken deer go weep,
The hart ungalled play;
For some must watch, while some must sleep:
So runs the world away. ”
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) Hamlet

And remember, in American Politics and Economics, Nothing Succeeds Like Failure.

Should I stay or should I go?
Delinquent clips for my fellow droogies, my fellow prisoners…
We know that music exists to stimulate emotion. Contrary to rumour, the modern composer writes music for the same purpose, though the increasing intellectuality of much of today’s music creates a barrier for many listeners. Early in the last century the great American musical experimenter Charles Ives was sickened by the lily-livered conservatism of the average listener. A work by his friend Carl Ruggles provoked a gentleman in the audience to shout indignant abuse at the performers. Infuriated, Ives rose and faced the offender: ‘Stop being such a goddamned sissy. Stand up and use your ears like a man!’

Ricky Gervais has a most raucous and infectious laugh. I excerpted a series of outbursts from a number of his shows and chained them together. This piece represents how I feel about the moronic hate-mongering so shamelessly exhibited by the McFailin campaign. Ah, the hilarity.
“How is freedom measured, in individuals as in nations? By the resistance which has to be overcome, by the effort it costs to stay aloft. One would have to seek the highest type of free man where the greatest resistance is constantly being overcome: five steps from tyranny, near the threshold of the danger of servitude.”
“Freedom of mind is the real freedom. A person whose mind is not free though he may not be in chains, is a slave, not a free man. One whose mind is not free, though he may not be in prison, is a prisoner and not a free man. One whose mind is not free though alive, is no better than dead. Freedom of mind is the proof of one’s existence.”
—Nietzsche
Then is doomsday near: but your news is not true.
Let me question more in particular: what have you,
my good friends, deserved at the hands of fortune,
that she sends you to prison hither?
A goodly one; in which there are many confines,
wards and dungeons, Denmark being one o’ the worst.
Why, then, ’tis none to you; for there is nothing
either good or bad, but thinking makes it so: to me
it is a prison.
You bought it, you bought it.

Fear, smear, sneer, deer in headlights…That’s all they’ve got. And they know it. They’re hoping that you’re as stupid as they think you are. You betcha. They are counting on the atavistic, disgusting, lingering racism that still haunts this country to “win” an election. And so many other things: homophobia, xenophobia, parochialism, religious delusions, jingoism and faux patriotism… And simple white trash stupidity.
Y’all got battered nation syndrome. ‘been fucked and beat up fer eight years by the most lawless, brutal, fascist regime that you’re in a kind of ironic love with the beast. No, ossifer, America didn’t mean it, the US didn’t mean to strip me of my rights, steal two elections, subvert the rule of law and set a torch to the constitution, squash habeas corpus; no, ossifer, America is a good nation, no, don’t send him to jail….
The last eight years we’ve been held hostage by sheer stupidity and evil. If McSame and Failin by some bizzarre turn of events (like yet another stolen election) take office in January, 2009, this will prove that in addition to racism, this country has deep PTSD, suffused with an intractable Stockholm Syndrome; it will be evidence that even though we been battered, we just can’t leave the bastard what done it. And we will deserve the cesspool in which we shall drown, bruises, flags and all.

“And handsomely, too; you just have to hang out with the right wrong people.”

Actual Bus queue repartee:
Early worm: A co-worker of mine got a DUI on a Vespa….
Inspector Gadget: yeah, you can get drunk on anything. I’m drunk right now.

Overheard in the bus queue this morning: “Anthony works with the mental…”
That is to say, or infer, or completely guess that he is gainfully employed at Lehman Brothers, or perhaps with a real-estate company or better still, a law firm. What else can one conclude in the land of utter failure, where the inmates run everything and the rabble cheer them on (although teh applause grows more and more sparse all the time).
A mathematician friend who had worked for JPL before his retirement said that he wouldn’t consider “playing” the stock market because it was “too irrational. there’s no logic to it.” However, his wife was a minor speculator and took a major bath in “black October” in the late eighties. Mathematician friend had to come out of retirement and go back to JPL.
There’s definitely something screwy about this frenzy we call “the market.” And if WE pony up the bail-out money, the moneychangers and mammon addicts will simply go on with more dysfunctional greed driven behavior. We can no longer afford to keep “enabling” these people. The time has come to stop playing bail bondsmen to a culture of fuck-ups. Let Johnny remain in the brig, the jug, the hoosegow, the holding tank and let him think about what he’s done. Meantime, how ’bout some infrastructure building for the people? Enough socialism for the rich, free markets for the poor (Chomsky).
